BOOK: The Memory Palace by Mira Bartok
This book is a memoire of a women's (the author) childhood with a schizophrenic mother. The book retells Mira's decision to take up another name and relocate for safety, from her mother. Mira tells of the guilt of abandoning her mentally ill mother in persuit of her own safety. However, no matter what her mother put her through she and Mira were always connected via letters. I loved this part of the book, because it goes to show the bond between mother and child. That no matter what Norma (Mira's moter) put her through Mira was always thinking of her, writting her, and mailing her little gifts. she was always concerned for Norma. It wasnt until a tragic accident that caused Mira to loose much of her memory that promted her to have to revisit her mother's U-Haul storage room for some of the sored items to jogg her memory and in turn invoke some feelings from her childhood.
The only thing about this book that got on my nerves was that she was always asking herself retoricle questions.....but i guess thats what u have to do to jogg your memory...it was just a little tedious after a while because she did it the ENTIREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE book. Other then that a slow, but decent read.
i dont spend much time writing personal entries on here anymore. i write them in my journal....i like it like that. I love writing, its so theraputic for me. Reading and writing is the one thing i do faitfuly EVERYDAY...its become sort of my spirituality.
My favorite thing to read these days are memoirs.
