BOOK: Summer Sisters by Judy Blume

Dont judge me...but YES i am JUST NOW getting to reading a Judy Blume book. I know this was supposed to happen when i was like, in puberty or some shit, a right of passage sort of thing...but some of us are late blumers. and who gives a crap. loool. I liked the book simply because it was written in the 70's and is a comming of age story of two girls growing up in the late 70's and 80's. We all know my thirst for ALL things vintage. It doesnt just apply to my clothing style. lol.
It was OK. I feel like it wasnt as interesting to me because i do feel Judy Blume books are more so geared toward the teen/ adolecent audience, so much of it had a "been there, done that" kind of feel. But it was well written and DID have me TURING THE PAGES.
Its about two best friends Caitlyn and Victoria who spend each summer together. Caitlyn is the "way out there" one of the two and gives Vix the blues for most of the story. What I notice is that by this book being written so long ago a lot of movies and books are modeled after it far as the relationship between two females is concerned and the outcome of that freindship. Either way, I'll be recommending Judy Blume to Poots when she gets of age. But, Judy Blume is almost one of those authors you gotta hide from your mama if you're a young teen reading her, she can be kindda risque.

BOOK: Two Or Three Three Things I Know For Sure by: Dorathy Allison

The way this book was written is very interesting. Kind of like poetry, but its a memoir of the author's life growing up in the south and being a victim of abuse, and how she grew into her lesbianism. It was just an OK book. And i LOVE memoirs. Dorathy Allison is also the author of the book Bastard out of Carolina wich was later made into a movie. But i was dissapointed in this memoir. It seems like she held back in her writtings. I mean, if you're going to hold back....then why write a memoir?? Not to mention its a REALLY short book. You could finnish it in an hour. The last thing i didnt like was the ending. At the end of the book i had a lot of un answered questions, i wanted to know if she is ok NOW ect.But It just sort of dropped off and ENDED like this

I really enjoyed this book because it was written by an EX-Jehovah's Witness ani was drawned to it based off of our sharred history. My only problem with how she shared her experiences as a ex-JW and this is a similarity i have noticed that a lot of ex-JW authors share: The book was written with such a cinical undertone. That everything about Jehovah's Witnesses are BAD. I want to read one book by an ex-JW who doesnt taint the religion with thier cinicism and just exclaims like myself "i JUST DONT WANT to be a Jehovah's Witness. Its JUST not for me" Now, i do have my issues with the religion, hence why i choose not to be a JW. But i am not so bitter that i am out to turn everybody eles against JW's based off of my personal experiences. And its NOT a cult! BLAH!! Brianna Barnes, mother was a Jehovah's Witness, but she was a TERRIBLE PERSON and mother. She abused her daughter. But this was NOT BECAUSE she was a JW. Her being a JW had NOTHING to do with her being a general HORRIBLE mother and human being
But what REALLY made the book MOST enjoyable was the love story thats enterweaved in the pages. It really had me cheering for Brianna and Matt....then for it to twist and turn out the way it did....almost had me in tears. It was REALLY unexspected. It made me think about trust. And confirmed so many of the reasons for my trust issues. People can go REAL left feild on u and hurt the hell out of you for no reason.

Now, usually I could give a rats ass about Will and Kate. Yea...i said it! AND WHAT?!? *bucks violently* loool. But The feminist in me just had to give this article a go. I just love how the rules of male dominance are being challenged world wide. EEEOOOW!

In England, women have the same rights as men—that is, unless they're royalty. The old-school rules of the British monarchy state that gender, not age, dictate lineage to the throne. So if Kate and Will had a girl, she'd only become queen if she didn't have a younger brother.

But the royal era of gender inequality is on the precipice of change, and not a moment too soon. Prime Minister David Cameron has proposed sweeping bans against the monarch's discriminatory, outdated laws.

Under his new proposal, Kate and Will's firstborn girl would have the same rights as their firstborn boy. And, on a larger scale, the rules would no longer favor kings over queens.

"We espouse gender equality in all other aspects of life, and it is an anomaly that in the rules relating to the highest public officer we continue to enshrine male superiority," Cameron wrote in his letter to the monarchy's commonwealth leaders.

Cameron also wants to toss out another dusty rule that bans royals who marry Catholics from succeeding the throne. This law was created during the tumultuous period of church and state upheaval in the late 1600's and Cmeron doesn't believe there's any justification for it in modern day times.

Palace officials haven't weighed in on the proposal officially, neither have Will and Kate. But the fact that the proposal has been raised now, only months into their game-changing marriage, probably isn't coincidental.

Kate and Will have already ushered in a new chapter for the royal family: they lived together long before they were wed, they're actually good friends, and nobody agreed to "obey" anybody else during their wedding vows. Although Will has the royal blood, Kate holds the proverbial conch with the public. This is not your "Sleeping Beauty" fairytale and it seems like a no-brainer that their union would be the perfect time to spark some change in the old-world sexism of the monarchy.

Still, Cameron's proposal isn't a done deal. In order for the changes to take place, he'll need approval from the 16 commonwealth countries under the rule of Queen Elizabeth. He'll also have to contend with the kind of royal-watching purists who are still reeling from Kate and Will's "unorthodox" wedding. Yes, they're out there.

Also surfacing are speculations as to the timing of Cameron's proposal: why now? Could there be a future queen already on board? Consider royal bump-watch officially on high alert.

JUST WRITTING

These past few days have been particularly trialsome.I have gotten away from writting so much on this blog because EVERYTHING was ALWAYS so negative and i began to feel ashamed of my life. And I know that, thats not what i promised when i opend this blog. What i promised to write and tell my story NO MATTER WHAT. Because my story may very well serve as a motivation or inspiration for someone eles.
I wont go into detail, but I BELIEVE you all know that I have been on anti depressants and was diagnosed with Severe Depressive Disorder a few months back. Well, this past weekend shit came to a boil and I was having suicidal thoughts. It was sad. And i felt so guilty, because of WHY I was having them. I never thought i would allow a man to be the cause of me wanting to KILL myself. Espcially when i have SO much MORE to live for. But i know now, that it wasnt JUST HIM. It was a combination of things mixed in with him that cause the evil contemplations.
I have never felt more under attack by satan then i have these past 2 years and few months.NOW i see how he REALLY operates. That he REALLY is out to kill me, make me unhappy,tare apart my marriage, and make me doubt God. I have found myself doubting God!! And wondering why i am so unhappy, and why my prayers to save my marriage and be happy have gone unanswered for so long. If this is what we were supposed to do to stop living in sin, then why havnt we been blessed? Am i only meant to live a life of misery? I cant, LITERALLY CANT remember the last time I have been happy. I mean...ok...I was a YOUNG teenager. Seems like EVERYTHING that could have gone wrong in my young adulthood HAS! And i am so dissapointed.
But i feel like things may be looking up soon, because last week when i was in the emergency room, I was able to start therapy that day and the next day. I will be going every week on Fridays. My therapist also does marriage canceling which Devin and I will be doing SEPERATE from my OWN therapy. Im excited, and im thinking this may actually work.

I prayed for God to bring me something in my life that makes me happy. For the past year i have studied belly dance an dpracticed it on my own. But I recently started taking free classes in belly dance ad ZUMBA!! i ABSOLUTELY LOVE belly dance. I love seeing myself improve and feel better about myself and my skill. I enjoy the dicipline of it all. And thats what makes me happy. The fact that i know that if i keep studying, stretching, and PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE that I WILL improve. it took 30 minutes a day, five days a week for 2 months to get all the muscles trained.

hi - I teach different styles of bellydance plus polynesian dance
the trick to doing a backbend is to use your thighs and butt muscles to
lower yourself to the floor and lift back up again.
the muscles in your stomach area will tighten but it is actually your thighs
that are doing most if not all of the work and control/
to build up you muscles you need try kneeling on the floor resting your butt
on your heels// now lift up about an inch or two above your heels and do about
5-10 pelvic circles /// now slowly lower yourself back down and rest a bit
before you try it again
surprisingly this works quite well for strengthening the leg muscles to get you
started

I have taken on a new feminine responsibilty: To LOVE My SISTERS in a different way then I ever have before. I feel that it is VITAL to our sex to be united and appreciated. I have not always held to this ideal, for not too many years ago I didnt LIKE WOMEN!!**GASPS** I felt they were sneaky and catty, and only out to hurt. I like being in the company of men better because i felt i could avoid all of that. But allas sneaks and "cats" exist amongst both sexes. I too am gulity of sneaking and catting around myself. But as i have grown older and more mature i see the plight of women and children in this world. My feminist eyes have been opened and the light has been brightened on the situation we are in economically, spiritually, personally ect. I have concluded that women have behaved in this manner as defence mechanisms. A protection. ITS HARD OUT HERE FOR A PIMPSTRESS. lool. We take care of the children, clean the house, carry on jobs and careers and all of this to MAYBE have a FEW people in our corners cheering us on. In a situation like this who's PATIENCE and KINDNESS, and MORAL wouldnt be tried at times?? With that said i VOW TO BE IN YOUR CORNER. To cheer you on and "hold you down", simply because you are my sisters and if we dont do it...who will? I am not saying that there arent men out there who love, cherish and support us. But what has happened to US LOVING, CHERISHING and SUPPORTING OURSELVES?? I vow to never intentionally hurt another women, to smile at every women i see, and to do everythingin my power to help my fellow TRESSES. I hope i have a few followers who can can vow this vow of sisterhood with me??!!

I take inspiration for my home from pictures like this. I LOVE nature,and want to surround myself in it as much as possible. But living in the city as i do that can be pretty hard. So i relish in the ideas of LOTS of plants and mini water falls around my home. Indoor nature adds so much peace to the home. i really enjoyed t his book although it was a bit sluggish at times because of the type of english used in writing it.It was written by Osama bin Laden's forth born son, Omar and his first wife Najwa. The information given in this book speaks about the TRUE man Osama Bin Laden was. The very private man he was even with his sons and wives. Nobody really knew much about HIM or what he was up to in his political affairs. His sons, especially Omar, never quite understood why he was the way he was. For example making them walk for hours in the hot dessertt sun without water or a break as a form of training them for war. or why they werent allowed to have toys or other conviences like a refridgerator. The book tells of the home life of Osama bin Laden and his sons that lead up to his position on Jahid and the stand his sons took and most notible Omar. A deffinate recommended read.

Children are what we say they are. Begin now to take every opportunity to inform
your daughter of her strengths. She will view herself as you view her. Send messages of self-confidence and heartiness: “You are smart.” “You are strong.” “You can do anything.” “You can be anything.” Your words will become her beliefs. One caution about praise: be matter of fact, be genuine, and don’t over inflate her.

Secret #2: Promote Independence
Encourage your daughter to do for herself and to try new challenges. Continue to send messages of strength: “You can do this.” “You can figure this out.” Teach her to manage money, to fix things, to camp, to enjoy math and science, to play ball, to golf, to throw, to make a go-cart, to build a tree house, to play chess, to use tools, to paddle a canoe, etc. She will grow to learn that she is capable of doing anything.

Secret #3: Promote Thinking
Parents have a responsibility to teach their daughters to think. Ask them questions. “What do YOU think about that?” “Why do you think that happened?” “That answer is correct. How did you figure that out?” By questioning, praising, and probing you will help your daughter sharpen her ideas, refine her thinking, learn to express her opinions, value her intelligence and achieve more.

Secret #4: Promote Learning
No matter what a girl’s age it’s important to encourage her to learn. Read together about important things. Read about active, hearty females. Read about women inventors, artists, and writers. Read about women in leadership. Every time a girl opens a book and reads about an active, adventuresome male or a womanless historical account, she learns that she is worth less…. Promote learning about powerful women. (Read about some of them here: Role Models, Stories & Adventures)

Secret #5: Promote Education
Do not allow your daughter the opportunity not to choose education. Frame your
conversations with her about her future with expectations of higher education. “When you
go to college…” “When you study hard and become a successful woman…” Do not, and I
repeat, do not say “If you go to college”. This gives an option. Teach early that college
follows high school. Enough said.

Secret #6: Promote Open Career Options
Show your daughter that females can and do select careers in all fields. Point this out whenever you can. “Did you notice that the doctor is a woman?” “Sarah’s mom is a lawyer. What do you think about that?” “A woman ran for president. What do you think about that?” Let your daughter know that she can choose what she wants to do. Encourage math and science fields. Read about women in these fields.

Secret #7: Promote Awareness
Help your daughter become aware of gender bias. Girls need to recognize it in order to respond to it. Pose questions to her about fairness. “Do you think only girls should do the dishes?” Get her thinking about and noticing when people make her feel inadequate or uncomfortable. Encourage her to speak up and speak out. Teach by example. When you see gender bias happening, politely call attention to it.
